Although they are still considered an explosive, fountains do not go into the sky and end in a bang; they are amazing low to the ground effects that make much less noise. Fountains can range from a few inches high up to 4-5 meters (at their highest spark).
Fountains are showers of sparks and/or coloured beads, that crackle and pop and fill a space with light and colour.
Check out some videos and see for yourself. But keep in mind, they can produce a lot of concentrated light, so sometimes in videos they are not as clear as in real life.
